The Wild Swans

By Hans Christian Andersen

A Sister's Love

In a far-off kingdom lived a princess named Elisa and her eleven brothers. When their father remarries, their new stepmother, a wicked queen, transforms the princes into wild swans.

The Curse

Banished from the kingdom, Elisa learns that to break the spell, she must knit eleven shirts from stinging nettles. While making these shirts, she must remain completely silent, for one word would doom her brothers forever.

"She gathered the stinging nettles with her delicate hands, and they burned like fire, but she was willing to suffer to save her beloved brothers."

Through pain and persecution, Elisa remains steadfast in her mission, proving that true love can overcome any obstacle.
